A horrible tragedy occurred in Oklahoma City this weekend. Police officers who were attempting to apprehend an alleged robbery suspect opened fired on a car that was carrying four small children. Three of the children were shot by police – one of them in the head.
Officials say the shooting occurred because they were searching for 21-year-old William Devaughn who they suspected was involved in a robbery. Devaughn was in his pickup truck with the four children when police made contact and began shooting.
OSBI Spokeswoman Jenny Virden stated, “As they tried to approach the suspect, there was an incident that happened. An officer involved shooting took place”.
“I don’t know what these injuries are. And then one child, from what I understand was not injured,” said Virden.
The police claimed the children aren’t facing life-threatening injuries, however the children’s mother explained that her little girl has a bullet lodged in her brain.
“My 4-year-old daughter was shot in the head, and she has a bullet in her brain, and my 5-year-old has a skull fracture,” Hill said. “My 1-year-old baby has gunshot wounds on her face. My 2-year-old wasn’t touched with any bullets.”
While police haven’t said if Smith opened fire or not, no police officers were shot.
The officers who fired on the truck and shot the children have been placed on paid administrative leave. It is unclear whether or not they will face any charges.
