The director of Vogue Brazil, threw a 50th birthday party Saturday, bringing together artists and millionaires. The party, which was held in Salvador, Bahia has been receiving massive backlash from the internet and is being accused of racism. Socialite Donata Meirelles held the party at the palace of Aclamação. Donata is married to journalist Nizan Guanaes, a native of Bahia and involved in the organization of this event.
Photos from the event reveal that the theme of the party was that of enslaved colony in Brazil. Black women dressed as housewives made the reception of the guests, who posted photos on their social networks with the hashtag #doshow50. The women, dressed as slaves, were left with shakers next to the “Sinha throne” so that guests could take photographs.

There appears to be a Brazilian slave + master theme. Mucamas (house slaves), who were very clearly darker complexioned, were posed as props alongside guests #DoShow50 pic.twitter.com/NrEY4nJuF8
