Over 8,000 People Have Opened Accounts At Citizens Trust Bank In The Last 5 Days

In light of the recent high profile murders of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, and the long list of Blacks who have been profiled, harassed and/or murdered by police, Black people have taken to social media and the streets demanding change. Boycotts of major corporations are being initiated and a movement to support Black owned businesses and banks is growing.

Citizens Trust Bank in Georgia and Alabama is feeling the results of this movement already. The bank posted the following on its Instagram account yesterday:

Let’s keep this movement going! Find a Black Owned Bank in your area and open an account. If you can’t find a physical bank close to you, there are many Black Owned Banks that offer online services. Here is a list of Black Owned Banks in the US:

  1. Please provide a list of the black owned banks in the U.S.

Also, can you open an account even if you live in another state?

I would consider doing a direct deposit.

    Thanks

  2. Bankblack.info has links for online accounts with African American owned banks. Citizens Trust (CZBS) and Broadway Federal (BYFC) are publicly traded and should be part of any African-American’s portfolio. To support black business, get involved with the 13th annual National Black Business Month at black business month.com

    • If you open one in the UK I can guarantee to open an account. Also, virtually all my network of friends & associates will open accounts too. I’m a business owner in UK

  3. Do you offer the same things as some major banks like student checking and savings accounts and what programs are in place for overdraft protection and fees?

  4. Is there any chance that any of these banks can open up branches in the United Kingdom? This should be a worldwide movement.

  5. Is St. Louis Community Credit Union black owned? I saw it on another FB page listed as such and wanted to confirm with you. Thanks.

  6. How about think setting up branches here. Black people in the UK we have spending power across Europe, and it would be good to have an option to support Black banks.

  7. No such thing as a black owned bank people, all banks are connected to the old established FDIC, Citizens Bank also supported slavery via giving money to plantation owners, what planet y’all live on by the way, the local Citizen’s bank in my hometown, changed it’s name, all of a sudden. Stop falling for the okee doke!

    • All the money is controlled by a world bank. Included the money YOU spend every day. Is that TV you bought not owned by you because you bought it with money backed buy the world banking system? And what is your solution? Just leave our money in banks that are clearly owned by corporations that do nothing for our community? If this bank that is owned and operated by black people uses the same money as the bank that is run by a corporation like Bank Of America, who’s roots can be directly traced back to slavery, why does it not make sense to support this bank? What bank is your money in? Even if its under your mattress, its STILL the same money printed up by the same world bank. I cant stand an idiot who wants to be negative thinking they are imparting some knowledge but are really just regurgitating stupidity they heard from somewhere else.

      • Going back to the gold standard. The U.S. Dollar is a fiat currency, backed by nothing. It’s value decreases daily. It will soon crash. It doesn’t make sense to establish an economy based on this U.S., evident by other major countries are starting to abandon the U.S. Dollar because of it’s faultiness. The Federal Government has completely ruined what used to be a gold backed currency before the 1970’s. Since then, the dollar has become worthless. Black-owned businesses are nice, but they completely miss the point of having a black-owned business in the first place, which is to reestablish a more stable and powerful economy, no reconstructing the same old falling economy. Y’all are almost there. Keep trying! Y’all doing good!

  8. What about African American UK retail banks? What do we do in the United Kingdom? Do the US black-owned financial institutions have an office here in the UK?

  9. Can’t get behind anything killer mike says. He has no credibility.
Love the idea of supporting ethnocentric business. Make the dollars work for blacks.

  10. I’m a long distance truck driver and as soon as I get back in Orlando, Florida I’m going to open me an account there as well! No more Regions Banking!

    • @Jessica

This is a good thing. Under so-called ‘segregation’, blacks were more successful. Our marriage rates where healthy, we established our own trades, and we were independent of government welfare. If we can go back to this state of culture, we will have progressed into a more healthy culture.

  11. Thanks so much for this great information. I have located a Citizen Bank near my area. I must admit I had know knowledge it was black owned. Thank you so much. I will open my account in the next few days.

  14. Older white liberal female living in Colorado: could I do this? It would be modest. But I’m very disturbed by the giant steps backwards that society has taken in the last few years. I want to be an example for change. Thank you.
