Moschino USA Sued For Using Codeword “Serena” for Black Clients

A former Moschino USA employee filed a claim against the luxury Italian clothing brand for discriminating against Black people.

As reported by TMZ, Shamael Lataillade claims her managers at a Moschino store in West Hollywood utilized a racist codename for Black customers who they felt couldn’t afford anything in the store. “She says the woman would call them a ‘Serena’ and instructed other employees to follow and watch them closely — sometimes even writing down their license plates,” the tabloid reports.

This lawsuit depicts the dangers of shopping while Black, and the racism that Serena Williams faces even while being the greatest athlete in the world.

Lataillade, who is a Black, Haitian-American lady, is likewise suing Moschino because the supervisor discriminated against her and mocked her as someone who practices voodoo,” TMZ reports. She was terminated for speaking out against the codeword and other racist practices occurring at the store.
