A new Black owned grocery store has opened in Louisiana. It is located at 12250 Plank Rd. in what is known as the Brownsfield area of North Baton Rouge. The store’s owner, Tyrone Legette is a former NFL corner back who used to play for the New Orleans Saints.
The new Save-A-Lot celebrated it’s grand opening Tuesday evening along with city officials and other invited guests. The store is located in the Brookwood Village Shopping Center.
Metro Councilwoman Chauna Banks-Daniel said it has been about 15 years since the old Winn Dixie closed in the same location.
Mayor Holden said investors aren’t interested in North Baton Rouge. The hope is that the Save-A-Lot will be an anchor store that could draw other investors back to the area. It’s a great opportunity for the residents of North Baton Rouge and those who support Black economic development to support a Black owned business in a predominantly Black area.

It’s nice to see positive stories about athletes who become entrepreneurs instead of hearing bout the few who squandered their money
Great! We need more of these!
I applaud your efforts & HOPE you can be successful. God bless & stay focused.
Great store, was there on yesterday and will continue to shop there, it not enough just to say this is good. You have to spend your money there, just like we do at Walmart , the dollar store and dollar general.it’s success depends on us.
Please share more info. May The Most High GOD bless you multiple times over.
vetoIf they end up ramming a VAT tax through none of us will have enough money left over to really make anything on our invested money. We’ll be too busy working to pay off all the new taxes, oh sorry, I mean fees, to pay the federal government (for the national health plan the majority di;8n#&217dt want).
