No Charges For Two Cops Who Shot De’Von Bailey In The Back

The two Colorado Springs police officers who shot De’Von Bailey in the back as he fled will not be charged.

Police body cam video showing two officers shooting as the teenager ran away made national headlines and lead to protests in Colorado Springs. Police say the shooting was justified because Bailey was reaching for a weapon as he ran away and the teen ignored verbal instructions from the officers to put his hands up. Officers found a gun in his pants after the shooting.

Fourth Judicial District Attorney Dan May announced the decision and stated that the body camera footage of the shooting provided “the best view of an officer-involved shooting” he had ever seen.

Bailey, who was 19-years-old, was shot in the back by police August 3, 2019 after fleeing from officers who attempted to pat him down for weapons. Police were responding to a 911 call from a man who said someone matching Bailey’s description had robbed him at gunpoint.

A grand jury found that the officers’ use of lethal force was justified because they had evidence to believe Bailey was armed while fleeing from them.

A family representative said the family was disappointed by the district attorney’s decision not to charge the officers.

“It is certainly not a surprise when a tainted investigation is presented by a biased prosecutor,” Bailey family attorney Mari Newman said after the announcement. “This is the exact reason why we have called for an independent investigation and an independent prosecution.”

It is not clear if the Bailey family will file a civil lawsuit or pursue any additional legal action in relation to the shooting.

If and that’s a big if , he had a gun. He could tactically shoot to cover his evacuation of the area. And their “apartheid law” specifically protects them (Racist murdering police), state’s that if police precieve you have a weapon in your pocession while escaping . They are allowed to kill you. What ? It’s up to the Black Community to protect and exact justice for it’s self , buy shooting these two murderous cops in the back. That would be fair
