Texas Cop Who Killed Botham Shem Jean In His Own Home Has Already Been Released On Bond

Almost 3 days after Dallas police officer Amber Guyger shot and killed 26-year-old Botham Shem Jean in his own home, she was finally arrested and charged. However, just hours after her arrest she was released on bond.

According to CNN.com, Guyger, 30, was charged with manslaughter and released on a bond of $300,000. Originally, she was reportedly not charged and released on Friday because she was “cooperative.”

According to reports, the shooting took place Thursday night at South Side Flats where Jean and Guyger lived. Guyger ended her shift Thursday night and allegedly entered the wrong apartment. According to Dallas News, Jean’s door was unlocked and the lights were turned off in his apartment, “Guyger, who was still in uniform, put her key in the door, which was unlocked, and the door opened, the official said. The lights were out. She saw a figure in the darkness and thought her apartment was being burglarized, the official said. Guyger pulled her gun and fired twice.” She didn’t know she was in the wrong apartment until Jean was shot in the chest.

Dallas Police Chief Ulysha Renee Hall said it’s unclear what “the interaction was between her and the victim. Then at some point, she fired her weapon striking the victim.” Guyger called 911. Botham Shem Jean later died at a hospital.
