WATCH: Man Caught On Video Vandalizing George Floyd Monument

New York City, NY – A video released by NYPD early Monday shows the moment a man vandalizes the George Floyd monument in New York City’s Union Square.

In the video, a man holding a skateboard and a cup can be seen lurking near the monument around 10:15 a.m. The man rolls past the statue on his skateboard and throws gray paint out of his cup onto the statue, splashing it on the face and base of the statue.

The George Floyd statue is one of three monuments created by artist Chris Carnabuci that were unveiled in the park on Thursday.

The video shows the vandal riding off on his skateboard, fleeing the area northbound on the west side of the park.

The “SeeInJustice” art installation also includes statues of Breonna Taylor, and Georgia Rep. John Lewis, the prominent civil rights leader who died last year.

According to the NYPD, the incident is being investigated by its Hate Crime Task Force.

Authorities described the suspect as a man with a medium build, last seen wearing a black hat, dark green jacket, a neon green T-shirt, black shorts, black and white sneakers, and a green backpack.
